A tornado that touched down during a bad storm in the Bahamas, has been blamed for overturning a port crane yesterday, killing two men in the crane.


There was one other fatality and four injuries at the port, although not necessarily associated with the crane accident.

The crane collapsed at the Freeport Container Port on the west coast of Grand Bahama, Two of the dead were in the crane when it fell and one on the ground.

Following a recent fatal accident in Scotland the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning all users of telescopic variable reach trucks, commonly known as telehandlers, of the danger of not replacing broken windows on these machines.

Through improved hydraulic efficiencies, the E300 provides more than 20 percent more duty cycles, which means an operator can drive 6.6 miles (10.6 km) and complete 175 lift cycles on a single charge. The new 305 amp-hour batteries provide a 18 percent improvement in recharging time and deliver a lower replacement cost for equipment owners.

"The JLG E300 is built to provide exceptional battery life, a key to delivering performance in multi-shift operations," said Chris Mellott, JLG Industries vice-president, sales and market development for the Americas. "Improved battery life and other enhancements will deliver increased performance for machine operators and reduce cost of ownership for rental companies."

Other E300 product improvements include: improved break-over clearance, smoother swing function, and a new multi-digital indicator that displays key information including: battery life, machine hours and fault codes. The display will improve troubleshooting and help service technicians diagnose and fix issues more rapidly.

Aerial work platforms manufacturer UpRight Powered Access, has started production of a new micro-scissor, the S1930E,which will replace the company's original MX19from next month.

The new S1930Ehas a 7.8m working height and a 227kg platform capacity with a 910mm roll-out deck extension. It is 760mm wide, has an inside turning radius of less than 130mm and can achieve 25% gradeability.

The new model will also feature UpRight's new proportional control system which incorporates on-board diagnostics and an improved console and will also be sold under the Snorkel branding and colours.

TEN BOER - met een doffe dreun kwam een Belgische hoogwerker van de firma Maes op het erf van boer Willem van Cooten terecht.



De kraan was bezig om een antenne op de silo te zetten. De wagen moest even verplaatst worden toen de linker achterstempel door een betonnen plaat brak en 2 meter de grond in zakte. Gevolg was dat de boel omkiepte en de wagen in de lucht kwam te hangen. Niemand raakte gewond. Of de kraan alweer is geborgen is onbekend.

Een baggeraar die momenteel in Boxtel de Dommel uitbaggert, is met zijn graafmachine van het drijvende ponton geschoven en in het water terecht gekomen.

De machinist kwam er met koude natte kleren vanaf. Een grote kraan was vanmiddag bezig de graafmachine weer uit het water te takelen. De graafmachine is tijdelijk buiten gebruik en moet worden nagekeken.
