In Hoogkerk is woensdagmiddag autohoogwerker tegen een viaduct gereden. De bestuurder was op weg naar een werk en die schatte de auto te laag in, het viaduct was lager dan gedacht en met als gevolg het rammen van het viaduct. De hele auto was volledig krom en zwaar beschadigd. Hij is total loss. De chauffeur moest mee naar het ziekenhuis voor controle, Berger Poort trok hem van het viaduct af.

Dutch based international rental company Riwal has opened a new German operation in Dortmund.

Riwal has been looking at the German market for some time in order to extend its coverage from Denmark to the north, Poland to the east and France to the west.
"It was just a matter of finding the right local people to open up Riwal Germany" said. Dick Schalekamp, Riwal's chief executive. As part of the company's search Søren Rosenkrands, general manager of Riwal Denmark, contacted Christoph Scheeben. "In Christoph we have found the experience, skills and motivation that are needed in order to start, build and manage the Riwal business in Germany successfully," said Rosenkrands.
Riwal Germany will officially open for business on May 1st, 2010 from a 3,000 square metre facility in Dortmund-Wickede. But the new company has a new Ruthmann TB270 and the 32 metre electric Holland Lift G-320-EL30 4WDS-N on display at Bauma.
Scheeben said: "Compared to most other European countries the German access rental business seems to have suffered less and in several industries and areas like the enormous Ruhr area short term prospects are positive. We believe that with a combination of experienced staff from the industry and the best available equipment of manufacturers like JLG, Genie, Teupen, Wumag, Ruthmann and Holland Lift we can succeed anywhere."
"Obviously our primary focus is to be successful with self propelled and truck mounted aerial work platforms as well as telehandlers in the 'Ruhrgebiet'. However for the coming years, we will also be looking at other parts of Germany to penetrate in with the help of the Team Riwal members in Denmark, France and Poland. We aim to add more depots in areas that will bring profitable business. We also seek co-operation with other rental companies, a formula that has proved well for the Team Riwal in other regions in the past"

Aerial Lift Safety

If proper aerial lift safety is not followed at all times it could result in a fatality - a fall, electrocution, collapse or tip over. All employees who operate aerial lifts (also boom-supported aerial platforms, including cherry pickers or bucket trucks) should be properly trained to be sure they are always safe while using this equipment. Other safe practices include:

■Follow manufacturer's instructions. Do not override electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical safety devices.


■Unless permitted by the manufacturer, never move equipment with workers in an elevated platform.


■Always inspect equipment and ensure lift platform chains or doors are closed before operating.


■Cones or signs should be present if working near traffic.


■All non-electrical workers should be at least 10 feet from overhead power lines.


■OSHA requires a full-body harness or a positioning device on bucket trucks or boom-supported lifts in order to prevent falls. If there is an anchorage inside the bucket, OSHA will accept a positioning device (belt) with a short lanyard.


■Make sure brakes are set. When on an incline, use wheel chocks.


■Outriggers should be used when provided.


■Ensure the load limit of the equipment is not exceeded-take the weight of the operator, tools, and materials into consideration too.


■Assume all power lines, wires, or other conductors are energized.

Rogier Jongejans heeft de eerste Formule Ford-race van het Paasweekend van start tot finish gedomineerd. Daarmee scoorde de Geva-rijder zijn allereerste overall zege ooit. De strijd om plaats twee was het aankijken meer dan waard. Na de eerste doorkomst leek Nils Vestergard naar een zekere tweede plaats te rijden maar al snel sloot het debuterende tweetal Jack Swinkels en Pieter Schothorst aan waarbij de laatste met een aantal fraaie acties de tweede plaats veroverde. Met Swinkels op plaats drie was het Geva-podium compleet.
